Japanese Word “SAOGIKU” assembled from SAO, in Japanese means fishing rod, while GIKU means Daisy - a symbol of the Japanese Emperor. A long time ago the MATSUMOTO family at Takamatsu City in Kagawa Prefecture, in Shikoku island of Japan had a small fishing shop for traditional Japanese fishing rods. They combined SAO and GIKU to make the name SAOGIKU shop.

The SAOGIKU is not only a fishing shop but also the birthplace of artisans who invented the traditional Japanese fishing rod. To the family's 3rd MATSUMOTO - Mr. MATSUMOTO ISAO, was not only interested in the kind of classic Japanese fishing but he also actively propagate sports fishing like Lure & Fly. It was in the late 1970s. Thereby, the SAOGIKU shop opened the door for the children and people in remote rural areas of Japan to have access to the Western way of fishing.
At the same time, ISAO was also absorbed in reating lures and other fishing items, especially he was interested in creating small Minnow for fishes living in a small stream deep inside the mountain. In those days people could not easily find the way to make lure by hand like now we can do through Internet, so ISAO had to devise by his own way.

With a earnest attitude and hard work, coupled with his personal talent and passion for making lures.... Combined techniques to making lures from Western countries, modern technology of Japan, and traditional knowledge to make fishing tackles from his family, ISAO built his own world from the attic of SAOGIKU.

The day ISAO officially launched a series of handmade lures named HOTSHOT, was also the day Japanese anglers recognized that his talent was at a level where nobody could compete. And HOTSHOT became a masterpiece in Japanese fishing scene.

However, as a true artist, ISAO hated flamboyant behavior. With his love of fishing and drinking Sake, ISAO often said: "I make lures to make just enough money to buy sake and go fishing. " That is why ISAO only made a limited number of products. And only for small numbers of anglers in local area.

And why HOTSHOT One day, through an introductory article about HOTSHOT from fishing magazine many anglers came to know the masterpiece of ISAO. They were really surprised about the ingenuity and daintiness of HOTSHOT and since then, the HOTSHOT became to well-known widely in Japan.
In March 2006, ISAO suddenly passed away at the age of 49. It was just beginning stage after his talent had bloomed.
Unfortunately, a few years earlier of his death, ISAO's father died, and he himself did not have his own family so the shop was left only on his elderly mother’s hand. She alone could not sustain SAOGIKU and had no option but to close the shop.
Already 6 years has passed since that day.

When I decided to open a fishing shop in Ho Chi Minh City, the first name that came to my head as my that shop, was SAOGIKU.

I grew up in the town where SAOGIKU was located. Since I was a student in junior high, every time I went to SAOGIKU, ISAO taught me how to use lures for catching snakehead fish and of course I was attracted by the quality of HOTSHOT. Now the place where SAOGIKU was located, became a Bank. But I still wish to continue SAOGIKU even a piece we can remain is a very small part of shop - a name. I contacted the only person left in the family for permission. His mother was glad to hear our intention and agreed to let me use the name of "SAOGIKU”.
7/2012 at Ho Chi Minh City, SAOGIKU store was "RE-OPENED" to become a lure-specialized shop.

Among the vast Japanese brands, our shop will carefully choose products that fit for fishing in Vietnam.

And not only a place for introducing fishing tackles, but also our shop want to be is a place which connects friends. Friends who foster passion of fishing, which shared understanding of lures in the world, and enjoy together in this wonderful world.

When I was a kid in SAOGIKU, I was excited with touching a large world of lure fishing. After growing up, I got really surprised with touching HOTSHOT. And now, in our SAOGIKU, we also want customers to feel same kind of emotions which I felt in old SAOGIKU shop.
