Though 80% of top lure anglers in Japan uses right-handle for Bait-casting, most of them choose left handle when use Spinning reel.
So what is the difference between Spinning and Bait-casting reel? Why anglers use Bait-casting reel though troubles like Backlash is unavoidable? To compare with spinning reel, Bai-casting reel can do more sensitive fishing.
When we cast, Bait-casting can control the lure much easier than Spinning reel. We can through the lure even a small spot.
When we use Bait-casting reel we can have more information about lure inside water through fishing line. Because from the top of rod, the line reaches to our reel straight. On Spinning reel the line have to be twisted before reaching the reel from the top of rod.
And because Bait-casting reel set on the rod, we can move the rod to control lures easier than Spinning reel.
We can through the lure where we want, we can feel the information in the water, we can control the rod and lure easier. From all of these merits, when we use Bait-casting reel, we can feel that we are controlling the fishing. So it is said that when we use Bait-casting reel we fish the fishes, but when we use Spinning reel fishes are fished.
Now we go back the issue about Left-handle.
To making use of these merits of Bait-casting reel, which handle is better for right-handed anglers? When we use right handle we can control the lure more sensitive through handle. When we use left handle we can control the lure easier through fishing rod.
But as I wrote in No.3 of this column, there is a demerit for Left handle for right handed people.
And in my private opinion, left handle fits more for Barramundi fishing with minnow lures than spinning reel because I control minnow lures by handle more than rod.
In Vietnam anglers start to use Spinning reel first by left handle. Just 3 years ago it was difficult to find anglers who use Bait casting reel here. Then they move to Bait-casting reel gradually with keeping the handle in the same hand. And most of VN anglers just follows this flow. But now it might be the time that anglers find the best way with thinking merit and demerit of Bait-casting reel reasonably.
